Job Description
The Department Assistant supports student services provided in the Office of Student Life (OSL) central office, under the direction of the Administrative Assistant. The OSL central office consists of the Dean of Students, Center for Student Success, and Student Involvement. The Department Assistant provides customer service as the first point of contact for students, parents, faculty, staff and visitors, as well as clerical support for OSL staff.

The OSL is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (5 p.m. during breaks and summer). Applicants should be available to work at least 8 to 10 hours per week during OSL office hours. Preference may be given to candidates available to work during break periods or summer, but this is not a requirement. Students working in the OSL during the summer should have the ability to commute to and from campus. In some cases, on campus summer housing may be available.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
1) Greet and assist students, faculty, staff and visitors.
2) Answer phones and assist callers.
3) Schedule appointments for some staff using Google calendar. 
4) Assist students with lockouts.
5) Print new or replacement student ID cards.
6) Accept payments for conduct fines. 
7) General office duties including data entry, filing, making copies, scanning and shredding.
8) Assist with maintenance of current student files.
9) Scan alumni files into electronic records system.
10) Run errands throughout campus as needed.
11) Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
·        Excellent customer service skills and telephone etiquette, with prior experience preferred. 
·        Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
·        Knowledge of Carthage campus and ability to answer general questions from students, faculty, staff and visitors.
·        Ability to work in a confidential environment.
·        Enthusiastic and reliable, with a helpful, positive attitude.
·        Accuracy and attention to detail. 
·        Enrolled as a full-time, undergraduate student.
·        Maintain good academic and judicial standing.
